چکیده

Faith and Trueman [Syst. Biol. (2001) 331] recently proposed ‘‘Profile Parsimony’’ (PP) as a new form of phylogenetic analysis, but it is equivalent to the Implied Weights (IW) method when certain functions are used. The PP method cannot accommodate missing ⁄ inapplicable cells and ⁄or multistate characters. Finally we demonstrate that, as defined, PP scores are not random, and 3 there is no need to generate random trees as proposed by Faith and Trueman. The Willi Hennig Society 2004.

Title: A sensitivity analysis for choosing reliability functions to select cladograms

(2006) A sensitivity analysis for choosing reliability functions to select cladograms. Zoologica scripta, 00, 000-000. Different methods to select among reliability functions used in cladistics (linear parsimony and implied weights) are proposed and explored under a sensitivity analysis framework. The proposed methods are character, taxon and mixed jackknife, and fast searches. Although results...

Multiple optimality criteria support Ornithoscelida

A recent study of early dinosaur evolution using equal-weights parsimony recovered a scheme of dinosaur interrelationships and classification that differed from historical consensus in a single, but significant, respect; Ornithischia and Saurischia were not recovered as monophyletic sister-taxa, but rather Ornithischia and Theropoda formed a novel clade named Ornithoscelida. However, these anal...

Phylogeny of the bee genus Halictus (Hymenoptera: halictidae) based on parsimony and likelihood analyses of nuclear EF-1alpha sequence data.

We investigated higher-level phylogenetic relationships within the genus Halictus based on parsimony and maximum likelihood (ML) analysis of elongation factor-1alpha DNA sequence data. Our data set includes 41 OTUs representing 35 species of halictine bees from a diverse sample of outgroup genera and from the three widely recognized subgenera of Halictus (Halictus s.s., Seladonia, and Vestitoha...

Bayesian methods outperform parsimony but at the expense of precision in the estimation of phylogeny from discrete morphological data

Different analytical methods can yield competing interpretations of evolutionary history and, currently, there is no definitive method for phylogenetic reconstruction using morphological data. Parsimony has been the primary method for analysing morphological data, but there has been a resurgence of interest in the likelihood-based Mk-model. Here, we test the performance of the Bayesian implemen...

Historical Biogeography of a Clade of Liolaemus (iguania: Liolaemidae) Based on Ancestral Areas and Dispersal-vicariance Analysis (diva)

Although many phylogenetic studies have been made on the genus Liolaemus, they are inappropriate for a biogeographic study because of incomplete taxon sampling. Here we develop a biogeographic analysis using a new phylogenetic study of the chiliensis group, which differs from the other studies in having his members fully represented. The biogeographic analysis presented here consists in reconst...
